SURFACES & EDGES
The workedface.
Every stone leaves the yard with a surface and an edge that were chosen, not defaulted. Sixteen finishes and four edge profiles cover the range the trade specifies. Each one below is photographed on the stone itself, at the yard.
SIXTEEN FINISHES
From smoothto textured.
The order runs smooth to textured. Sawn and honed at one end, riven, rockfaced, and hand-chiseled at the other. Where a finish carries more than one photograph, the thumbnails expand.

01
Shown in Red Choco
Sawn
Cut clean.
Cut with a diamond saw to a fine, uniform machine texture — flat, even and subtly gripped. A precise, contemporary surface for modern paving and slab work.

02
Shown in Kandla Grey
Honed
Smooth and matte.
Ground to a flat, even surface with no gloss. A calm, contemporary finish that reads soft underfoot and shows the stone's true colour. Suited to interior floors and low-traffic feature areas.

03
Shown in Kandla Grey
Matte
Soft, low sheen.
A smooth surface with minimal reflection — gentler than honed, quiet and understated. Well suited to interiors and covered applications.

04
Shown in Brown
Leather
Depth without gloss.
Brushed to a soft, leathered surface that holds the stone's colour depth while resisting marks and smudges. A refined, tactile finish for premium interior surfaces.

Cotton Brush
Brushed and tactile.
Abrasive-brushed to a soft, matte surface with a fine grain and gentle grip. Contemporary and understated, for interiors and sheltered terraces.

Sandblast
Fine, even grip.
Fine abrasive blasted across the surface for a uniform, lightly textured matte finish with dependable grip. A practical choice for steps and wet areas.

07

Shotblast
Matte, non-slip texture.
Steel shot fired at the surface produces an even, matte, textured face with strong slip resistance. A workhorse external finish for paving and pool decks.

08
Shown in Camel Dust
Shotblasted Cotton
Textured, then softened.
Shotblast followed by a cotton brush — textured for grip, then softened for a matte, tactile hand. A refined surface for external and transitional spaces.

09

Flamed
Fired for grip.
Intense heat spalls the surface crystals to leave a rough, naturally non-slip texture with a softened, lightened tone. A classic for pool surrounds, ramps and high-traffic external paving.

10
Shown in Flamed on Shotblast
Blasted Flamed
Dual-textured, deep tone.
Blasted and flamed in combination for a deep, dual-worked surface — enriched tonal contrast with high slip resistance. A statement finish for demanding external settings.

11
Shown in Natural
Natural Riven
The stone's own face.
The natural cleft face, left as the stone splits along its bed. Characterful and naturally textured, with the grip and variation that only riven stone carries. A traditional choice for gardens and patios.

12
Shown in Camel Dust
Riven Shotblasted
Riven, with extra grip.
A natural riven face further shotblasted to even the texture and lift slip resistance, while keeping the cleft character intact. For external paving that needs both character and grip.

13
Shown in Camel Dust
Tumbled
Aged and weathered.
Tumbled with abrasive to soften the edges and surface, giving an aged, antique character. Ideal for rustic patios, courtyards and heritage settings.

14
Shown in Kandla Grey
Rockfaced
Bold, raised relief.
Hand-dressed to a raised, pillowed face with strong three-dimensional relief. A rugged, architectural finish for wall cladding, boundary walls and elevations.

15
Shown in Kandla Grey
Hand Chiseled
Hand-tooled lines.
Chisel-worked by hand for a linear, tooled texture with genuine artisanal variation. A characterful finish for feature walls, borders and steps.

16

Sparkling
Catches the light.
A surface treatment that draws out the natural mica and quartz in the stone, so it sparkles under light. A decorative finish for feature areas.
FOUR EDGES
Where the stonemeets the joint.
Machine cut for tight contemporary jointing, straight handcut and hand cut for character, bullnose for steps and pool edges. The edge is specified with the order, format by format.
